  • Description and Reason for Change *

The purpose of this change to the program is to include both CMGT 452 and ETSC 490 as required courses within the curriculum. Below is a short summary for each course.

    1. CMGT 452 - LEED in Sustainable Construction - The CMGT program is making this a required course for all CMGT students to complete as part of the curriculum. The justification to include this course as part of the curriculum is do to the Student Learning Objective (SLO) number eighteen (18) requirement by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) that requires all students to "Understand the basic principles of sustainable construction."

As this course currently exists, students have the option to take ETSC 490 (Cooperative Education) or CMGT 452 to complete the requirement. By requiring all students to take the course we will be able to offer the course each Fall. As of right now, we only offer the course if we can get enough students in the class and with the last few years we have not met this threshold forcing students to take ETSC 490. Offering ETSC 452 is a win win for many different types of students accross campus as well, since any student can take the course generally applied to a Minor or Certificate program which helps get students into the course and fill seats.

    2. Requiring all students to take ETSC 490 - Cooperative Educaton is also necessary due to the program and our Construction Industry Advisory Board requesting all students to have industry experience prior to applying to the program and graduating. Students who possess some industry field experience in construction are more likely to succeed in construction academics and their chosen career in construction because their experience in the field is something they can apply to their academics. By having this experience our retention of construction students will also be increased because they will have developed key skills necessary to succeed and the students generally get hired prior to graduation, which is a cornerstone to the overall success of the program.

In summary, incorporating both these classes does increase the program credits to graduate from 131 credits to 135. Students should still be able to graduate within four years if their academic plans align with the CMGT requirements and general education requirements along with proper advising. Making these changes will also align our program with our ACCE accreditation requirements. Additionally, we have updated the program narrative to current information needed as part of our accreditation process.

  • Credit Limit

The following question applies only to BA and BS programs, for all other program types, leave this field blank.

For applicable programs, indicate whether the proposal will change the credit total, so that it will exceed the credit limit for that degree type (75 credits for BA programs; 110 for BS programs). If the program was previously approved to exceed this limit, only select "Yes" if the changes will further exceed this limit.

Please note- This question must be answered before the proposal is launched, but the response should be based on the proposed credit total.

  • Will proposed changes to this program exceed the credit limit?
B.A.'s cannot go over 75 credits and B.S.'s cannot go over 110 credits with out approval by the Faculty Senate.
  • Program Text for Catalog Copy

When importing, all program text not built into the curriculum schema will appear in the Program Narrative field. Unless changes are being made, there is no need to parse the text into the other fields. If changes are being made, be sure to remove the old text to avoid potential confusion with conflicting or redundant information.

The Program Narrative is a required description of the program, the others are optional text fields where additional descriptions can be added. If any of the requirements below reference courses or shared cores they must be added into the proposed curriculum (below). For assistance in attaching an existing core, or in creating a new one, contact curriculog@cwu.edu
